Wingspan Asia joins the roster of Stonemaier Games in the top 100 alongside Scythe, Viticulture, and base game Wingspan.
What is Wingspan?
For those unfamiliar, Wingspan Asia is the latest standalone expansion of the award-winning Wingspan, currently #30 on BGG, created by the brilliant designer Elizabeth Hargrave and published by Stonemaier Games. While the original game focused on the birds of North America, Wingspan Asia shifts its gaze to the rich and diverse avian species of the Asian continent. In doing so, it introduces new gameplay elements, unique birds, and stunning artwork by Ana Maria Martinez Jaramillo and Natalia Rojas that continue to engage both seasoned bird-watchers and board game enthusiasts.
What is Different About Wingspan Asia?
Wingspan Asia works as a two-player Standalone expansion. It features a “Duet Board” with “Duet” specific Goal Tiles for a more head-to-head experience. On the Duet Board players place tokens claiming bonuses after each time a bird is played on a player’s board.
Not only does it focus on two player mode but also brings the new Flock Mode which allows the game to be played with up to 7 players.

We Love Wingspan Asia!
With the success of its predecessor Wingspan Asia joining the rankings of the top 100 is no surprise. Wingspan has been one of our most played games. My wife and I frequently bring it out in our rotation of games. I was excited that Wingspan Asia brought more of a two-player focused to the game. It was one of my favorite games in 2022 and my number 1 expansion of the year.
At the time of writing this article, I have logged over 160 plays, that’s over 130 hours of Wingspan. With 17 of those plays being played with Wingspan Asia. My wife currently holds our tops score at 131 points.
Why This Achievement Matters
Board Game Geek’s top 100 list is one of the most sought after achievements in the board game community. Games earn a spot purely by a community rating system (with a touch of algorithm to keep the system from being abused). To be recognized by the board game community as one of the current best 100 games amongst the vast number of board games released every year is an amazing feat. It will be no surprise if Wingspan Asia continues to claim the list.
A Heartfelt Congratulations
To the entire team at Stonemaier Games, Elizabeth Hargrave, the talented artists, and the dedicated Wingspan community—congratulations! You’ve truly earned this spot among the best games in the world.
Keep flying high, Wingspan Asia!
